Our History
In 2017 NetWaste canvassed food rescue/ welfare agencies throughout the Central West and brought them together to form Food Rescue Central West (FRCW).
From this point, HopeCare has been a driving force within the group, representing FRCW on many occasions and pushing forward the group’s agenda with large organisations such a FoodBank and SecondBite, Coles and Woolworths. In 2018, Food Rescue Central West commissioned a study to investigate the operational capacity of food rescue in the Central West. The study surveyed 17 agencies and the ensuing report recorded information about their needs and their challenges.
FRCW has been busy advocating a “fair go” for regional food relief charities
HopeCare put together a major grant application to the Environmental Trust and was successful in obtaining funding to purchase major infrastructure. HopeCare has the responsibility of managing the FRCW regional distribution project.
In March 2020, the FRCW Regional Distribution Project was successfully launched and has since diverted over 200,000kg of food from waste. This food has been distributed to other food relief charities throughout the region including Parkes, Canowindra, Orange, Grenfell, Oberon, Molong, Stuart Town, Cowra, Bathurst and Lithgow
