Our History

In 2002, the Bargain Centre (formerly known as Central West Care) opened at its current location in Russell Street.

Our aim was to increase our capacity to serve the growing need for support in our community through selling second hand goods, including clothing, household items and furniture.

The Bargain Centre was the catalyst for our sustainable welfare services model. The money made by the Bargain Centre would allow us to start a service assisting vulnerable members of our community with food and energy bills.

How the Bargain Centre makes Bathurst a better place.

The Bargain Centre has grown significantly employing 4 staff with over 20 volunteers and processing up to 450,000kgs a year goods that may otherwise end up in landfill. The Bargain Centre provides significant financial support for the large range of Community Support Services offered by HopeCare

Reuse. Repair. Rescue. Recycle.

Turning “waste into welfare” is a concept that underpins our mission. By giving a second chance to items that may otherwise enter landfill, we generate vital funds for our community support initiatives whilst fulfilling our environmental objective of reducing waste.

The Bargain Centre is dedicated to recycling and reducing waste and providing unique retail experiences for our customers. All profits raised through the sale of items goes directly back to supporting our local community.

For a comprehensive overview of the community service we offer, please visit the Support Services link on this page.

The Bargain Centre also provides volunteer and work opportunities for people with disabilities, participating in Work for the Dole programs, Community Service programs, work placement, work experience and Work Development Orders.

Donations

The Bargain Centre specialises in the sale of quality second had goods. Goods sold start out as donations by members of the community. There are many items we can take as well as some we cannot.

We also accept monetary donations and as a charity registered with the ACNC any monetary donations are tax deductable.

Some may wish to donate specific goods or business services. Local businesses often offer services of specific goods such as food, to Hope Care as a form of donation.
